VISBY hamnkran "Elefanten" Visby Harbour Crane
      
Denna modell av pelarkranen "Elefanten" i Visby hamn blev 2012 vår julgåva till alla klipparksvänner runt om i världen.

This model of the old Fairbairn crane in Visby harbour was in 2012 designed as a Christmas gift to our paper modelling friends all around the world.

VISBY hamnkran "Elefanten" är byggd efter William Fairbairns patent från 1850 till en effektiv och lätthanterad kran för handkraft. Den kunde lyfta drygt 10 ton och kom troligen på plats i samband med kajutbyggnaden omkring 1900. Handdriften ersattes med elektrisk drift 1921 och omkring femton år senare byggdes också hytt för motor och förare. Kranen torde vara bland världens äldsta i ordinarie drift. 
Visby harbour crane "Elefanten" (The Elefant) follows William Fairbairns patent from 1850 for a heavy lifting hand powered crane. It was probably set up in Visby around 1900. It was electrified in 1921 and got the cabin for motor and driver added in the late 1930ies. The crane is still in ordinary use as harbour crane

If someone thinks the model is too big, he or she could rescale it 40% down to 1:250. But to most of us, the model is hard enough to build as it is.
